Japan’s Rikuya Hoshino has claimed the first Red Bull Final 3 at the Austrian Alpine Open. Hoshino showed strong nerves on the decisive final three holes on both days and secured victory with an impressive performance.
On Saturday, Hoshino moved into a share of the lead in the special ranking with a birdie on the 16th, another birdie on the 17th and a par on the 18th. On Sunday, he delivered once again: a birdie on the 16th, followed by a bogey on the 17th, and then a decisive birdie in front of thousands of spectators on the 18th sealed the win.
“The birdie putt on the 18th was makeable after the good first shot — but I was shaking quite a bit because I really wanted to win this challenge,” said the Japanese player with a beaming smile at the awards ceremony.
