Local Hero in the Spotlight: Maximilian Steinlechner

Maximilian Steinlechner will compete as the local hero at the Austrian Alpine Open presented by Kitzbühel Tirol. The Tyrolean has established himself among the world’s elite over the past year thanks to strong performances and his qualification for the DP World Tour.
At the 2026 Austrian Alpine Open in Kitzbühel, one player is in the spotlight: Maximilian Steinlechner, a Tyrolean and local hero who recently became an ambassador for Tyrol.
Steinlechner was considered one of the most promising talents in Austrian golf from an early age. The former college player already impressed in the amateur ranks, celebrating successes both nationally and internationally. He turned pro in 2023 and made his mark in 2024 with a third-place finish at the Euram Bank Open at GC Adamstal on the HotelPlanner Tour.
Last year marked Steinlechner’s breakthrough on the professional circuit. In January, he celebrated his first professional victory at the Mediclinic Invitational on the Sunshine Tour. His season on the HotelPlanner Tour was outstanding. He won his home tournament in Austria, the Interwetten Open at GC Schladming Dachstein. He also finished second three times and, with additional strong finishes and a third-place finish in the overall standings, secured his playing privileges for the DP World Tour.
His guest appearance on the DP World Tour in Austria in 2025 was also successful. At the Austrian Alpine Open at GC Gut Altentann, Steinlechner was among the top players, thrilling the home crowd and finishing the tournament in a tie for 22nd place.
This year, Steinlechner aims to establish himself on the DP World Tour. At the Joburg Open in March, he secured his first top-15 finish of the season.
In May, the Innsbruck native will be in the spotlight at the Austrian Alpine Open in his home country. Steinlechner’s track record shows that he can play his best golf in front of a home crowd. Austrian fans are eagerly anticipating his performance and have high hopes for a strong result.
