From May 25 to 31, 2026, the renowned Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith Golf Course will transform into one of the most important venues in the international golfing world. The DP World Tour is making its debut this year in Kitzbühel, Tyrol, where the participants’ top athletic performances will meet the organizers’ precision planning. On Tuesday, local golf star Sepp Straka and the organizers provided insights at the Starthaus am Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel into the sporting challenges, the international significance, and the role of golf as a tourism and economic driver for the region and the state of Tyrol.

Following the successful debut of the Austrian Alpine Open last year at the Gut Altentann Golf Club in SalzburgerLand, the sports-loving state of Tyrol is showcasing its best side with the Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith Golf Course: As an official stop on the 2026 DP World Tour calendar, the tournament is now stepping into the international spotlight. Since being awarded the tournament, the course has been specifically brought up to the highest international standards and is ready for the world’s golfing elite.
World-class golf in front of a home crowd
For Austria’s leading golfer, Sepp Straka, who regularly competes against the world’s best players, this stop in his home country is something very special: “My last tournament in Austria was eight years ago—which makes me all the more delighted to be teeing off here again. The course is in excellent condition. Kitzbühel is truly beautiful, and the view from the golf course is simply breathtaking.”
Millions in economic impact for Tyrol and Kitzbühel
Karin Seiler, Managing Director of Tirol Werbung, highlights the event’s appeal: “Alongside the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour is the world’s largest professional golf tournament series. We are therefore delighted that, in cooperation with SalzburgerLand, we were able to bring this international sporting event to our region and have Kitzbühel—an experienced partner with excellent golf facilities—at our side. By hosting this major event in early summer, we are strengthening tourism during the off-season and consistently moving toward year-round tourism. At the same time, the event will prominently showcase the Alpine landscape for many hours and is expected to generate an advertising value of more than 37 million euros.”
“Kitzbühel is known worldwide for elite sports and extraordinary experiences. With over 70 years of golfing history and four golf courses in the town alone, Kitzbühel now offers a unique tourism experience. Hosting a major international sporting event that showcases this uniqueness to the world through the media is therefore the next logical step,” says Kitzbühel Tourism Managing Director Dr. Viktoria Veider-Walser, emphasizing the importance of the Austrian Alpine Open for the entire region, and adds: “After intensive preparations, we are now very much looking forward to the tournament. The numbers speak for themselves: In the coming days, the event will be broadcast to more than 170 countries, accompanied by nearly 3,000 hours of live media coverage. Our special thanks go to everyone involved in this project—especially our greenkeeping team.”
A tournament that sets the standard
Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of Golf Enterprises GmbH and emotion Group, and organizer of the Austrian Alpine Open: “With the DP World Tour, we’re not only bringing top-level sports to Kitzbühel, but also positioning the region as an international golf destination with sustainable potential. The combination of sporting excellence, a stunning natural backdrop, and first-class infrastructure makes the Austrian Alpine Open a true highlight on the tournament calendar—for professionals and visitors alike. The fact that we are able to welcome Sepp Straka, one of the world’s best golfers, is a win for both the tournament and local golf. We are ready to show the world what Austria has to offer.”
